Share
Take 20 minutes of your day to switch off, and turn on your senses. Follow this short trail to discover the sounds of nature in Pateley Bridge.
Follow the directions below or use the interactive map at the bottom of the page.
Turn left out of Wildish and walk to the bottom of the high street. Cross the road, walk part way across the bridge and stop to hear the River Nidd flowing underneath.
Continue across the bridge and turn right into the park. How many different birds can you hear singing in the trees as you make your way along the path? Keep an ear out for any ducks on the water.
When you reach the caravan park, the sound of the river will start to change as you approach the weir. How is it different?
Follow the path until you reach a gate. Pass through it, and cross over the bridge to your right, listening to how the sound of your footsteps changes as you walk across.
You’ve reached a crossroads in the path. Walk straight on under the trees then follow the path as it curves around to the right. Duck inside the small willow hut on your right to take a pause and listen to the wind blowing through the trees around you.
When you’re ready, rejoin the path and walk straight on. The footpath will slowly turn back into road and pavement as you re-enter Pateley. See if you can stay tuned in to the sounds of nature around you.
